Richard A. Mazzini

Background

Richard Mazzini has more than thirty years of experience in the electric utility industry, including expertise in all areas of electric operations. He has consulted extensively in the areas of restructuring and competitive repositioning for utilities, strategic business planning and energy marketing and trading.  

Mr. Mazzini is currently active with US and Canadian utility clients addressing the challenges of their new markets and the business opportunities and threats those markets create. He has numerous clients in both the investor-owned and public power sectors and has considerable experience in dealing with today’s major issues facing utility executives.

Education

Mr. Mazzini has a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Villanova University. He is a Registered Professional Engineer.

Prior Experience

Prior to becoming an independent consultant, Mr. Mazzini was Senior Vice President in the energy practice of ABB Financial Consulting. In this capacity, he served as Project Manager and lead consultant for projects in the US, Canada and Europe.

Before joining ABB Financial Consulting, Mr. Mazzini was a Principal for Navigant Consulting, Inc., where he served as Project Manager and lead consultant on numerous consulting engagements. Previously, he was Senior Vice President for the Washington International Energy Group, where he was responsible for the firm’s competitive positioning practice.

Mr. Mazzini also held several positions with Pennsylvania Power & Light (now PPL) since 1967. His most recent position was Manager - Electric Market Strategies and Operations. In this role, he was responsible for strategic business planning, wholesale and retail pricing, bulk power marketing and operations, and contract negotiations with large customers.

He also has extensive background in the generation business, including nuclear power, having served in a number of management roles associated with PPL’s Susquehanna nuclear station. His activities spanned the initial planning, licensing, design, construction, startup and operation of the plant.

Additionally, Mr. Mazzini has considerable experience in the development and implementation of corporate management programs aimed at improving organizational effectiveness and productivity. Initiatives have included staffing strategies, organizational design, change management, employee involvement and cost management programs.
